Adult Ministry
Winter classes begin Sunday, January 11 and end April 5.
Four classes are being offered:
Old Testament Challenge: Part II
There are some things in this life that always seem to be in high demand but short supply.
Wisdom is one of them. In our fast-paced world of sound bites and canned answers, we need
a source of deep wisdom that does not change with each new fad and trend. The wisdom books
of the Old Testament offer a fountain of truth to quench our thirsting hearts and refresh
our parched souls. This course is designed to follow the biblical texts for Dr. Dixon’s
sermon series on the Old Testament.
That the World May Know
Have you ever wondered what it looked like to walk as Jesus walked? What about where
He walked? Come join us as we explore the Middle East. This class is an in-depth video
tour of the buried, distant or otherwise forgotten places where the Bible actually happened.
Filmed on location in Israel and Turkey, this series allows us to look at scripture from a
cultural perspective. Walk with us in Galilee (When the Rabbi says, “Come!” and When the
Rabbi says, “Go!”). Caesarea Phillippi, Sardis, Tel Gezer (Standing at the Crossroads), Tel
Jericho, the Jordan River, Antioch Pisidia, Lystra and Cappadocia (Why Christians Suffer:
The Weight of Gethsemane).
Life with God: Reading the Bible for Spiritual Transformation
Too often our study of the Bible focuses on searching for specific information or some
formula that will solve our pressing need of the moment. But what if we approached the
Bible differently, and instead of transforming the text to meet our needs, allowed it to
transform us? With a wealth of examples and simple yet crucial insights, Richard Foster’s
Life with God is an indispensable guide to approaching the Bible through the lens
of Christian spiritual formation, revealing that reading the Bible for interior transformation
is a far different endeavor than reading the Bible for historical knowledge, literary
appreciation, or religious instruction.
Shattered Dreams: God’s Unexpected Pathway to Joy
Shattered dreams are never random. They are always a piece in a larger puzzle, a chapter in
a larger story. The Holy Spirit uses the pain of shattered dreams to help us discover our
desire for God, to help us begin dreaming the highest dream. They are ordained opportunities
for the Spirit first to awaken, then to satisfy our highest dream. To help us understand
this neglected truth in the deepest and most helpful way, Dr. Larry Crabb has written a wise,
hopeful, honest and realistic examination of life’s difficulties and tragedies using the
story of Naomi in the book of Ruth.
